Like father like son, Manse proved he could possibly walk in his father’s footsteps as an actor.

On the “The Prize of Patience” episode of KBS2’s “The Return of Superman” aired on November 29, the show continues to show the triplet’s adventure at the set of “Jang Young Shil,” the drama in which Song Il Gook is playing the male lead. The three dress up as beggars in order to make a special appearance.

When filming starts, Daehan and Minguk receive the role of child beggars eating on the side of the road while Manse has to sit alone on the road crying.

A flock of actors run around the set as angry, revolting beggars, which can be a frightening sight for the young triplets. However, Manse shows his determination by holding Song Il Gook’s hand and promising to cry along.

Once the filming starts, tension fills the air. Though Daehan and Minguk happily eat their food, Manse puts extra work into digging into his emotions and soon tears up. The director is pleased with his work and soon sends out an OK sign.

“When I saw them dress up, they were adorable and knew what they were doing,” Song Il Gook says. “Congratulations to their first attempt at acting, and the fact that they got to see where their dad works is meaningful enough itself.”

Fans are eager to see how the triplets will be portrayed in the actual episode of “Jang Young Shil.”

Actress Seo Young talked about her exhausting bed scene with actor Song Il Gook.

On December 1, Seo Young said during the press conference for the upcoming film “Tattoo,” “I was very grateful for getting to film this movie since actresses don’t get many chances to show a full-body tattoo. My tattoos took a total of three and a half hours to draw. It was okay when I had my clothes on, but the tattoos got erased during the bed scene with Song Il Gook, so it was a bit difficult.”

The actress continued, “We filmed the bed scene for about 34 hours. It’s not a bed scene, really. We filmed on the hard, wooden floor. I was so tired after filming that I was about to pass out. For me, blood got on my hair and it hardened, so I had to cut some of my hair off. It was difficult to film, but I think the scene came out charmingly.”

“Tattoo” is about a tattooist who coincidentally meets Ji Soon (Song Il Gook), a man who has assaulted her in the past. She plans to insert poison into the tattoo ink to kill him. Fans are excited and curious to see Song Il Gook play the role of a psychopathic murderer. It will premiere on December 10.

Actor Song Il Gook will soon be making his return to the big screen with the film “Tattoo,” playing the role of a psychopathic serial killer. This departure from his usual roles has been turning heads, and many fans are looking forward to seeing what promises to be a thrilling performance from the talented star.

“Tattoo” tells the story of a tattoo artist named Soo Na (played by Yoon Joo Hee), who suffered from an unspeakable act when she was younger. By chance, she encounters the man who committed that act, Ji Soon (played by Song Il Gook), when he becomes one of her customers, giving her the chance to get her revenge.

On December 1, Song Il Gook attended a preview and press conference for the film, along with the director Lee Seo and his co-stars Yoon Joo Hee and Seo Young.

Song Il Gook’s casting in the role of a psychopathic murderer has caused a bit of a stir, as many people have become used to seeing the star as the loving, kind father of his triplets on “The Return of Superman” and as the hero in dramas such as “Jumong.”

Director Lee Seo takes the chance to explain his casting decision at the press conference. “If someone completely unexpected commits a cruel act, the act appears even more inhumane,” he explains. “Song Il Gook has a very gentle image, and I cast him because I’ve always thought that if someone like him plays such a role, they seem even more cruel.”

Song Il Gook says, “I chose the role because I wanted to try playing a new character.” He adds, “You might think that I worried a lot and thought about this role in relation to my previous image from dramas and variety shows. But I took the role without worrying about it at all.”

He continues, “This film gave me the time to express some intrinsic parts of myself,” and states, “I chose the film because it allows me to show a different performance than in my previous works.”

At the end of the press conference, Song Il Gook smiles shyly and jokes, “It’s not a crime for an actor to make a transformation.”

“Tattoo” is slated to hit theaters on December 10.

Coinciding with the upcoming release of the movie, Song Il Gook took some time out of his busy schedule to pose for High Cut magazine. The pictorial doesn’t show any glimpse of the kind dad he is to his sons. Instead, it shows his transformation as the cold and lonely character he plays in the film.

During the interview which took place during the photo shoot, Song Il Gook showed great enthusiasm toward his role in the upcoming film and KBS’s historical drama “Jang Yeong Sil.”

About his portrayal of a psychopathic serial killer in the upcoming film “Tattoo,” he commented, “I think I’m a lucky person. While I really wanted to make movies, I didn’t receive any offers. Finally, I was happy to receive some experimental movie scripts.”

While he was preparing for the movie, he asked his wife, a judge, for some advice on his psychopathic serial killer role. He added, “My wife gave me some advice as someone who used to serve as a warrant issuing judge. She said reality is much worse than movies.”

KBS is giving us a sneak peek at the much-anticipated historical drama “Jang Young Sil” with stills featuring both leading man Song Il Gook and the child actor playing a younger version of his character!

12-year-old actor Jung Yoon Suk is taking the role of the young version of the character Jang Young Sil, who is portrayed later in life by the drama’s star Song Il Gook. A representative from KBS says, “We worked very hard to find the young Jang Young Sil. We’ve been looking for the best child actor to take the role since the beginning of production, and after numerous auditions over a span of more than two months, we chose Jung Yoon Suk.”

Jung Yoon Suk has a special connection with Song Il Gook, as he debuted in Song Il Gook’s famous historical drama “Jumong” at the age of four.

The representative from KBS states, “Child actor Jung Yoon Suk will be playing Jang Young Sil during his difficult childhood, when he showed great intelligence and superior scientific understanding but suffered because of his status as a slave.”

They add that Jung Yoon Suk has come to be known as a “sponge” on set because of his ability to quickly memorize his lines.

“Jang Young Sil” is slated to air its first episode on January 2.

But not too long afterwards, having spent all his energy, he ended up sitting on the roadside and asking his father to help.

Manse, who is known for his adorable oddball behaviors, decided that he wanted to run in the opposite direction. And then he said, “I think I’m going through a hardship right now.” Pure gold.

Inside the box, there are boxing shorts and gloves for the boys. Song Il Gook takes the triplets’ clothes off and puts the boxing shorts on them.

Song Il Gook tells the triplets, “This is it,” since they look puzzled wondering if there is more clothing, but soon the triplets are seen throwing punches at their dad.

Reports surfaced on December 9 that actor Song Il Gook and his triplets, Song Daehan, Minguk, and Manse will be leaving KBS2‘s “The Return of Superman.”

An insider spoke to reporters, saying that, “Song Il Gook and the triplets will be leaving ‘The Return of Superman.’ They have already finished recording for their final episode.”

However, the PD of the show was quick to refute the rumors. Shortly after the reports were released, KBS2 quickly released a statement saying that the actor and the triplets had not yet participated in their final filming, and that they are still filming for the show.

“There will be a day when they will leave. But, we have yet to discuss them leaving the show.”

The triplets joined the show in July 2014, and have received a lot of love and popularity through their appearance in “The Return of Superman.”

Manse has explained why he likes his father Song Il Gook — and his reason is quite adorable. 

On the December 13 broadcast of “The Return of Superman,” Song Il Gook attempts to find out about the triplets’ innermost thoughts by making them interact with a talking robot.

When it is time for Manse to have a little talk with the funky electronic friend, he surprises everyone by acting entirely comfortable in the setting and readily responding to the robot’s questions.

The young boy is his honest and adorable self as the robot asks him, “Why did you come here?” Manse responds, “I was playing, but then Daddy just took me here,” making Song Il Gook feel slightly awkward over the forced setting.

Soon, Manse opens up about his feelings towards his father. “Hey, Robot. I like my Dad,” he confesses to the robot.

Why? “He’s cute.”

“I’m happy when I go down a slide, and I’m sad when I get scolded by my Dad,” Manse goes on to explain about what he likes and dislikes.

On the latest episode of “The Return of Superman,” which aired on December 13, Song Il Gook decides to test Minguk to find out how he behaves when his dad isn’t around and what he thinks about his dad, inspired by what Lee Hwi Jae did with his twins on an earlier episode.

Instead of using a teddy bear like Lee Hwi Jae, Song Il Gook finds a robot. While Minguk is sitting by himself in a room for a time out, the robot enters and starts talking to Minguk. Although Minguk is curious and excited, unable to contain a smile, he says, “I’m being punished right now, so I can’t say hi,” keeping his promise to his dad even though he isn’t in the room.

So far so good, Song Il Gook revisits Minguk and gives him a kiss, punishment over. He asks Minguk to stay with the robot, however, as he has more to ask.

After leaving the room, Song Il Gook asks via the robot, “Who do you like most in the world?” Minguk responds, “Prank,” a character from a show he watches. Song Il Gook, wound up with anticipation, is majorly disappointed. He goes for the next best thing, asking, “Who do you like second best after Prank?”

Minguk delivers, saying, “I like Dad the most,” and Song Il Gook can’t contain his happiness.

Fans of “The Return of Superman” were recently thrilled to get to see Song Il Gook take his beloved triplets to the set of his new historical drama, “Jang Young Sil,” where they were dressed up as Joseon era beggars and got the chance to act in a scene.

It wasn’t known at the time if Daehan, Minguk, and Manse‘s scene would be making it into their father’s drama, but the show’s PD Kim Young Jo has now revealed his plans for the footage they shot that day.

In an interview with TV Report on December 15, Kim Young Jo says, “We’re planning to use the footage of the triplets. Although their appearance was arranged in the spur of the moment, they did a good job.”

However, Kim Young Jo says he won’t be revealing ahead of time which episode will include the triplets’ cameo. He states that his reason for keeping it a secret is that he worries viewers won’t be able to empathize with what’s happening on screen if they are focused on watching only for the triplets’ scene.

Song Il Gook previously joked on “The Return of Superman” that he wasn’t sure if the triplets would be paid for their appearance on the show. When asked about this, Kim Young Jo vaguely replies with a joke, “I imagine it would be included in Song Il Gook’s paycheck.”

Kim Young Jo also comments on his impression of Song Il Gook, who is taking the lead role in the drama as the inventor Jang Young Sil himself. “In fitting with his nickname, ‘God of Historical Dramas,’ he has a face that inspires confidence,” he says. “He’s very detailed and always completely prepared.”

The first episode of “Jang Young Sil” will be airing on KBS on January 2 at 9:40 p.m. KST.

Song Il Gook‘s beloved triplets are growing up so fast!

On December 20′s episode of “The Return of Superman,” Daehan, Minguk, and Manse take on the task of making their own breakfast, with their dad’s help of course.

Manse washes some fruit (and makes a big mess with the water), and the boys make themselves cereal, with Daehan carefully pouring equal amounts of the cereal and milk into three bowls, and Minguk doing some taste testing.

Minguk does his part by managing to get a heavy bottle of water out of the fridge and carrying it over. The boys are eating fruit and dried sweet potato while sitting on the floor when Daehan says to Manse, “Sit up there and I’ll bring it to you.”

“I’m the chef today!” he says proudly to his dad. Manse then climbs up into his high chair, and Daehan brings over his plate. “Manse, if you put on your bib, I’ll give it to you,” says Daehan.

Seeing this, Minguk climbs into his own high chair and asks Daehan to give him lots of food.

On this week’s episode of “The Return of Superman,” Song Il Gook‘s son Daehan once again shows how caring and kind he is.

Manse is the first of the triplets to wake up in the morning in this episode, and he asks his dad, “Where are we going? Today’s our day off.” Minguk wakes up too and also reminds their dad that they have the day off from their school that day.

Song Il Gook groggily holds his arm out and says to Minguk, “Please massage my arm for me.” Meanwhile, Manse climbs on his back and giggles mischievously.

Daehan finally wakes up too, and Song Il Gook sleepily asks him to massage his arm.

Daehan, naturally, sets right to it, and says to his youngest brother Manse in a worried voice, “Massage dad’s arm for him. He says his arm hurts.” He then turns to Minguk and says, “Minguk, dad says his arm hurts!”

However, his younger brothers are too busy to hear, as Manse is hitting his dad’s leg and singing, and Minguk is focused on folding his blanket. “Thank you, Daehan,” says Song Il Gook.

Actor Song Il Gook and his triplets, Daehan, Minguk, and Manse, have officially announced that they will be leaving KBS’s “The Return of Superman.”

On December 22, the production crew reported that “Yesterday (December 21), Song Il Gook and the triplets, Daehan, Minguk, and Manse, took part in their last filming. We still have a lot of footage left, so the final footage/their last episode is planned to air in February 2016.”

“We weren’t able to confirm a departure because filming was ongoing. However, due to recent issues, the crew and decided to film the final episode after discussions. We ask for your understanding and apologize about [the confusion] and unclear reports on the Song family’s departure. We’d like to thank the viewers who have given Song Il Gook and Daehan, Minguk, and Manse their love and affection. The crew of ‘The Return of Superman’ were happy to watch over the growth of Daehan, Minguk, and Manse for the past year and a half. Thank you to the viewers for letting us watch them grow with you. We have only words of thanks to the real ‘Superman,’ Song Il Gook, a man who has moved us many times [through the show]. We support actor Song Il Gook, who is taking part in wonderful [acting] roles.”

The triplets and their father joined the show in July 2014, and will be leaving after more than a year on the show.

Song Il Gook’s upcoming historical drama, “Jang Young Sil,” has released a poster of the actor in the titular role. The KBS 1TV drama is about the historical figure Jang Young Sil, who was a prominent scientist and inventor during the Joseon dynasty.

On December 24, the production staff released the poster, which features Song Il Gook looking wise but charismatic in simple white clothes, standing in front of his inventions. The character has appeared in historical dramas in the past, but never as a main character. This will be the first time that his story is told through a drama.

Song Il Gook is reported to have felt great responsibility to take on the role of a historical figure that the nation respects and admires. In addition, despite Jang Young Sil’s advances in the field of science, there is not much in historical records about him. In preparation for the role, Song Il Gook is said to have studied up on the character and consulted the script often.

“‘Jang Young Sil’ is a production that we’ve worked on for a long time in order to live up to the reputation of KBS’s historical dramas,” the production staff said. “Song Il Gook and the other actors are working hard in anticipation of the day the viewers see the first episode. Please anticipate it.”

The first episode will air January 2, 2016.

The 2015 KBS Entertainment Awards took placed in KBS Studios on December 26. The awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Shin Dong Yup, singer Sung Si Kyung, and AOA’s Seolhyun.

For the Best Male Entertainer Award under Variety Show category, the nominees were Moon Hee Joon of “Immortal Song,” Song Il Gook of “The Return of Superman,” Jung Joon Young of “2 Days & 1 Night,” Jung Tae Ho of “The Human Condition,” and announcer Jo Woo Jong of “A Look at Myself.”

The award went to Song Il Gook. In his acceptance speech, he commented, “Thanks to all the production crew members of ‘The Return of Superman,’ I was able to be a good dad. We just finished our final taping. Thank you so much for your love for Daehan, Minguk, and Manse.”

Best Variety Show Program nominees chosen by the viewers were “2 Days & 1 Night,” “The Return of Superman,” “Gag Concert,” “Immortal Song,” “Hello Counselor,” and “Happy Together.”

Actress Kim Soo Mi and comedian Park Myung Soo of “A Look at Myself” put on a special stage along with singers Hong Jin Young and producer and singer Yoo Jae Hwan.
